ASTeRN

Space Connexions provides the project management support for the Advanced Surface Temperature Radiometer Network (ASTeRN) project. Current UK in situ radiometer designs are now 20+ years old, so the aim of the project is to build and deploy a network of ‘next-generation’ radiometers designed to measure sea and land surface temperatures to very high accuracy. These radiometers will be used to validate the data produced by infrared remote sensing satellites. This will improve the accuracy of the data generated, directly impacting weather and climate forecasts. SCL-UK works alongside RAL Space, the University of Southampton (UoS), the University of Leicester (UoL) and the National Physical Laboratoty (NPL).
